Ma3a is fully installed into the lab server, and the corporate intranet. No, I didn't intent for the voice to sound like that, but now that you mention it, she does sound a little like my wife. She's never far from my mind.

These math assistants are an experimental form of AI. No, they're not marketable. I don't imagine anyone outside a large research lab would be interested at this stage anyway. Ma3a has every safeguard in place to prevent another case like Master Control. I was there for that mess and barely survived it.

We've sat on our laurels and recycled our past successes for too long. Unless we innovate, we will be left in the dust by the companies who do.

As you may have heard, there was an accident in Lab Five yesterday involving Dr. Lora Bradley. Starting immediately, all work on Shiva Laser Mark Three has been suspended, pending an investigation of the accident. The lab itself has been shut down for the duration of the investigation and is closed to all personnel.

Furthermore, Joseph Daniel Thorne is no longer working for the DoD, and his clearance has been revoked. Please update your mailing lists accordingly.

Dear Mr. Bradley:

I will not lie to you. It was a very close call. Fortunately, the new drug regimen is working – it's halted further neuropathy, but we'll have to monitor her heart and lungs. We're not discharging her until we're sure she won't have another seizure. We truly have not seen an autoimmune cluster quite like this.

We can test new treatments, and hold off the illness as best we can, but Lora's prognosis is unknown for the long term...

Spartan” has proven himself, at least to me. We had an opening in the security department, and I was able to pull strings to let him work with me at Encom. It's the least I could do for all his help, especially since he allowed me to save her at the cost of his career. From there, I'll test the waters with him, see how much of what we're doing he can be trusted with. Unfortunately, he's seen more than I'd like already with the lab accident. Not even I'm entirely sure how I reversed the process. Whatever I did, Ma2a and Mercury Four were destroyed. I'll have to start all over again – ground up – on both.

My wife was gone for six hours, trapped in the buffer of that laser. No, she still isn't out of the coma, and there's no way to tell if she will pull through at this point – or if there will be lasting damage when she does. Worse, I suspect that “accident” was anything but.

Losing our friend was hard enough. I stay strong because he needs something to return to...but if I lose her? Please, please make sure I don't do anything stupid. The boys need stability, they need a father. Remind me of that as often as you can.

I'm on dial-up from the hotel and need the line free in case the hospital calls. I will speak to you soon.

I knew it

I knew Pop was keeping things from me, I just didn't have proof of what he was up to.

"Isolated Thinker" - Damn it! It figures he's the mastermind on "Flynn Lives." I figured out that connection years ago when I tried hacking the account out of boredom. I couldn't crack it (Pop's been designing security software since before I was born. He knows a lot of the tricks), but i could piece together enough of the IP and the writing style to make a good guess. It's insulting that he couldn't trust me with this. For crying out loud, Uncle Kevin was my hero; the guy who taught me the basics of coding, how to see the patterns in an AI and use them to my advantage. He's the reason I went into game design, and his disappearance has caused everyone around me so much pain...

Mom and Pop lied about Mom's accident, too. She was digitized and trapped for six hours? But how? Why? And what did Pop do to get her back? Is she sick because she didn't come back 'right?' And what's the connection between the virus, F-Con, my father, and Thorne?
